Two Port Compact Wideband Dielectric Resonator MIMO Antenna for WLAN/WiMAX Applications

A two-port compact MIMO dielectric resonator antenna with wideband nature is presented in this article. The antenna consists of two cylindrical dielectric resonators mounted upon the L-shaped substrate such that two dielectric resonators are orthogonal to each other. The antenna has a size of $50\times 18\times 8.6\text{mm}^{3}$. The antenna is fed with the help of a ring aperture and is operated between the frequency range of 4.98-6.33GHz, hence providing a bandwidth of 24.89% for port1 and 23.87% for port2. The isolation between the ports of the MIMO antenna is found to be lower than −18dB within the frequency band of operation. The MIMO performance metrics of the proposed MIMO radiator are predicted to be within acceptable limits. The proposed antenna is convenient for WLAN and WiMAX applications.
