Congestion Management of Large Power Network with Static Synchronous Compensator

As the electrical market expanded in response to rising demand and infrastructure, the power network became more complex. Transmission congestion is one of the most serious problems that utilities face. FACTS devices can be used to regulate transmission line power flows and relieve bottlenecks. The loading condition and sudden outage of transmission line, may create transmission line congestion, which may be determined by the load power demand. It might be caused by over- or under-loading of the network. It is necessary to do a comprehensive assessment of this network under numerous conditions before suggesting a cure. In this study, a power network 57 IEEE is utilized as a test case, and it is investigated under various conditions, including normal healthy network and overloaded network. The FACTS shunt device STATCOM is used to improve or maintain network power performance during congestion conditions. For placement of STATCOM weak bus is identified from bus voltage profile. MATLAB toolbox PSAT and Power World Simulator software is utilized for verification purpose.
