Design and Construction of Soil Moisture Content Sensor for an Automatic Irrigation System

Our design is focused on the adoption of agricultural methods such as irrigation, soil moisture analysis using digital technology and wireless sensors. Farmers are increasingly concerned about water shortages because water is at the heart of the irrigation scheme. For greater agricultural productivity and long-term profitability, water quantity must be regulated. The development of an autonomous sensor-based wireless irrigation water regulation assistance system is important. On the basis of soil moisture data, the suggested method determines the water requirement for crops. Varying crops require different levels of water regulation, as both insufficient and excessive water can be harmful to farming. The purpose of the project is to construct an automated irrigation device that turns a pump motor ON/OFF dependent on soil moisture levels. After receiving the information from the sensor, the GSM technology uses SIM900 to transmit the message to the registered mobile phone number, and the motor is automatically turned ON/OFF.
