Reliability Assessment of Distribution System Considering Protection Coordination

Reliability of the distribution system is jeopardized due to a lack of coordination among the protective equipment. This study analyses the coordination between the fuse and the circuit breaker (CB) while evaluating the reliability of distribution networks. When there is a fault on the laterals, the main circuit breaker (CB_ m) must be opened, which degrades distribution network reliability and causes it to fail. In addition, the melting of the fuse during a temporary fault will raise the cost of repair. A fuse-saving scheme has been proposed in accordance with that. Petri net (PN) is being used to do a reliability analysis for coordinating purposes. The PN model provides a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic behavior of protection equipment as well as its coordination.
