Thirteen Level Boost Inverter with Low Switch Count

Conversion of power from the renewable energy source to electric load requires power converters and multilevel inverter (MLI) plays a vital role in this segment. To reduce the number of switch counts, switched capacitor-based dc-ac multilevel inverter can be used. This switched capacitor-based inverter has fourteen switches with one input source and three capacitors. The peak inverse voltage (PIV) of nine switches is equal to the source voltage and the PIV is equal to twice the source voltage for the remaining four switches. This MLI topology obtains thrice voltage gain by using self-balancing capacitor and doesn't use any auxiliary circuit. To reduce voltage ripple and peak charging current, large capacitances are used. In the topology, high voltage gain with low switch count is achieved with PIV less than the output voltage. Simulation of this topology is verified with the proper result.
