Performance Score and Equivalent Ratio of Reserve Resources

Reserve services (including spinning and non-spin reserves) in traditional power system are mainly provided by thermal and hydro generation units. In recent years, more resources, such as energy storage device and adjustable load, can also participate in providing reserve services. However, the performances of these resources are quite different from each other. This paper presents a method to calculate the performance scores of the reserve resources based on their response curves, and a method to calculate the equivalent ratio between different reserve resources based on their performance scores. The performance score calculation method mainly considers three aspects, which are the delay, precision and effective energy. Based on the reserve calling signal, our method calculates the performance score of each resource according to its historical response curve. Take performance score as equivalent ratio to calculate effective reserve of each resource. The simulation case study verifies the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
