Cooperation-based DMPC Controller for Two-area Interconnected Power Grid with BESS

In the actual operation of interconnected power systems, there is a certain degree of coupling between different regions. Therefore, when studying the load frequency control (LFC) problem of interconnected power systems, it is necessary to not only ensure the global control effect of the interconnected system but also consider the communication burden between controllers. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a cooperation-based distributed model predictive control (DMPC) strategy for a two-area interconnected power system composed of a traditional thermal power unit and a battery energy storage system (BESS). The controller makes full use of the network communication environment of the power system, completes the information exchange between different subsystems, disperses the global optimization performance index of load frequency control into the control objectives of each subsystem, and completes the optimal control through a certain weighting method, thereby reduces the computational burden in the control process. Finally, in order to verify the feasibility of the proposed cooperation-based DMPC, simulation experiments have been completed on the simulation platform for different working conditions.
