Summary of Hydrogen Industry Development and Application Prospect: The Case of China

In the face of the major strategic opportunities of green energy development, the research and application of hydrogen-containing multi-energy supply, demand and utilization can support for the realization of the national strategic goal of “carbon peaking and carbon neutralization”. Firstly, the basic concept and development background of hydrogen energy are summarized in this paper, and then it is explained that hydrogen energy has been paid more and more attention. The development status of hydrogen energy industry is introduced from the perspective of industrial chain distribution and industry development pattern. China has initially formed a comprehensive pattern in the field of hydrogen energy from basic research, applied research to demonstration, and laid out a relatively complete hydrogen energy industry chain. Secondly, the future development prospect of hydrogen energy industry in China is predicted, where the combination of hydrogen energy and fuel cell with digital innovation industry will accelerate the transformation of energy structure, and the development space of hydrogen energy will be further expanded in general. Then the core of hydrogen energy utilization in China is to do a good job in top-level planning, strengthen standard formulation and solve pain points and difficulties under the goal of “double carbon”. Finally, the inspiration of hydrogen energy development in China is discussed from different perspectives, and the main direction of hydrogen energy research in China is introduced through a major project guide of “basic theory and key technologies for the collaborative operation of hydrogen multi-energy supply and demand system”.
