Analysis of Internet Application Services Traffic on WAN Metro-E Network

This paper presents an analysis of internet application services utilization on the WAN Metro-E network. Recent problem identified that internet line has been upgraded from time to time, but still, campus faced internet link congestions year by year. The Quality of Services (QoS) especially on the internet WAN Metro-E network faces the same problem. This study presents the performance analysis of internet application services. The data was collected using network monitoring tools called Exinda which was responsible for the monitoring and control of the network throughput. A one-month data was collected on a campus Metro-E network at the main gateway to the internet. The result presents a classification of the top 10 internet application categories used in the network. Inbound and outbound data was analyzed based on maximum and minimum throughput on the network. The top three (3) Inbound applications services show that YouTube, TikTok, and HTTP services present the use of 45.94%, 16.41%, and 8.33%. The top three outbound services show that Unclassified, Amazon Cloud, and YouTube used total data at 105.767GB. Pareto distribution model was identified based on the analysis of both inbound and outbound internet WAN Metro-E network traffic. This research is significant in deploying traffic scheduling, policing, and shaping future QoS on Wan Metro-E Network.
