Evaluation of Response Spectartrum and Equivalent Static Analysis for recognizing the safest position of Floating Columns by ETABS in Zone V

Multi-story building construction for residential, industrial, or commercial use has become commonplace in recent year which need a large amount of parking or open space around them. Columns from the floors above create a challenge in multi-story residential buildings to accommodate the amount of parking spaces and turning radius. The floating column construction is a novel concept in building construction that serves a special architectural purpose known as Stub columns or hanging columns. The earthquake’s lateral forces should be transmitted to the foundation through a clear force transfer path. In the case of floating columns, that force transfer channel gets disrupted. In the high seismic zone, these floating columns attract a lot of seismic force, which is undesirable. FC construction is restricted under IS 1893:2016, but there are no limitations or restrictions for investigation. This research is carried out to determine the building’s seismic reaction and to assess and construct a structure that will cause the least amount of damage to the structure and its components in lateral ground motion. For seismic zone V, G+ 10 storey building with architectural complexity with various positions of Floating Columns (FC) is examined by equivalent static and response spectrum analysis using ETABS software.
