Infrastructure saturation analysis of fast charging stations on highways considering a stochastic operation model

The long-distance trip is one challenge to increase the EV user acceptability. The path length near or above the EV range introduces conditions of Range Anxiety and could affect the total travel times. The development of Fast Charging Stations on Highways (FCSH) is essential to handle it. However, when the infrastructure is not developed according to the initial conditions or is not updated with the EV market share increase, it could affect the charging queues, waiting times, and, consequently, EV user satisfaction. It introduces the infrastructure saturation concept. This form, this paper shows an analysis of FCSH saturation, discussing the impact of the EV market share in the utilisation rates and queue size. A case study is proposed, based on actual data of a Brazilian highway, applied to a three steps operation model, composed of a Monte Carlo Simulation, traffic flow estimation, and FCSH operation. The deciles results demonstrated the direct relationship between the EV market share, FCSH position, and the number of chargers.
