Empirical characterization of the conducted disturbances generated by the electric vehicles during the charging process

This paper aims to characterize the conducted Non-Intentional Emissions (NIEs) generated during the charging process of the electric vehicles (EVs). These disturbances may cause negative effects on Power Quality and on the Power Line Communications (PLC) data transmitted by the smart meters close to the charging points. As the time and frequency patterns of the NIE depend on both the EV model and the charging regime, an empirical evaluation based on field measurements is required for a detailed characterization. In this work, a measurement campaign of the disturbances generated by a set of EV models for different charging regimes has been carried out. The analysis of the NIEs allows the identification of the frequencies and amplitude of the emissions, together with some relevant variation patterns over the time.
