Smart Home Integration with Third Party Camera Platform

Typically, Internet of Things (IoT) systems integrate low-power sensors and actuators. Such devices usually communicate via ZigBee, Z-Wave, or BLE technologies, which are optimized for low throughput and long battery life. However, with the improvement of the systems and the emergence of new consumer demands, there is a need to integrate various useful external platforms into the existing IoT systems. For example, smart home users would benefit from the availability of the weather forecast provided by the remote cloud service, or from the integration with the third-party video surveillance cameras. In this paper, we will describe the method to integrate the existing smart home solution with the external camera platform. Integration of the external platform is performed on a cloud-to-cloud basis and requires the creation of adapters that serve as the translators between the smart home system API and the external platform API.
