We report on the synthesis, spectroscopy and mid-infrared laser operation of a sesquioxide transparent ceramic with a composition of (Er
0.07
La
0.1
Y
0.83
)
2
O
3
fabricated by vacuum sintering at 1780 °C. A continuous-wave ceramic laser generated 300 mW at 2840 nm with a slope efficiency of 27.7%.
