Gene and Small Molecule Delivery in vivo Using Novel Nanoparticle-based Systems

Combinatorial therapies based on co-delivery of drugs and nucleic acids have outstanding potential for improving therapy of socially significant diseases in comparison to standalone treatments. This encouraging approach gathers the activity of chemotherapeutics and nucleic acid capacity to repair deregulated signaling pathways, as a complex strategy to achieve a beneficial therapeutic effect. Nanoparticles are one of the most promising class of drug delivery vehicles due to their ability to simultaneously transport a great range and amount of payloads to achieve synergistic therapeutic effect. In this work, we demonstrate the possibility of adapting the properties of nanoparticles of various classes to deliver a wide range of therapeutic cargo for biomedical applications.
