Development of mid-IR chalcogenide fiber emitters

The recent data on the preparation of core-clad fibers on the basis of high-purity REE-doped chalcogenide glasses are presented. Chalcogenide fibers doped with Pr
³
+, Tb
³
+, Dy
³⁺
and Sm
³
+ ions have low optical losses and strong broadband photoluminescence in the mid-IR; Tb
³⁺
-doped fibers demonstrate a laser emission at 5 μm. The fibers exhibit high emission characteristics (luminescence lifetimes and output powers), which are suitable for the development of mid-IR fiber emitters.
