Development of Robotic 3D Printing System

In recent years, 3D printing or Additive Manufacturing, has been capturing the imagination of everyone from entrepreneurs to at-home hobbyists. This growing technology has brought the cost down several times, especially in prototyping and low volume products. Most of the 3-d printers available today use a printing head mounted on a 3-axis CNC machine. This architecture could be improved by replacing the CNC system with robotic arm. Robot arm will provide more flexibility to the printing process especially in complicated shapes. Robotic system will provide additional orientation axes to the printing process. In this paper, an experimental application of robotic 3d-priting system is presented. The system architecture, programming and experimental results are provided.
