Invetigate the Effect of Connecting Multiple FACTS Controller on Voltage Stability and Power Transfer Capabilities

Due to the increase in demand of electricity nowadays, a remarkable shift in electricity generation was observed in recent years to increase power system transfer capabilities to meet the increased demand, many solutions have been introduced, comes in front the Flexible AC Transmission system (FACTs), which can provide extra pliability to enhance power transfer capabilities. Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) and the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) are among the FACTs family. Former one is the Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC), which is connected in series, and the latter is called STATic COMpensator (STATCOM), which is in parallel connection, is both together can have an important role in power transfer capabilities and voltage stability. In this paper, a comparison study between TCSC and UPFC controllers is introduced. The IEEE 14-bus system is modeled and simulated using the NEPLAN Program. The results show amelioration in the test system bus voltages and real power transfer with a noticeable losses reduction.
