Finite element analysis of thermo-mechanical force for trefoil formation high voltage large section cables and cleats

High voltage large section cable has large diameter and high current carrying capacity, and the thermo-mechanical effect caused by loss and heat is strong. The thermo-mechanical force can easily cause mechanical failure of cable body and cleats. In this paper, the electric-thermo-mechanical coupling finite element model of 330kV high voltage large section cable is established, the thermo-mechanical effect of the cable body and the hardware is calculated, and the temperature of each layer of the cable body is extracted and analyzed under the 3400A current-carrying state of the high voltage large section cable, as well as the thermo-mechanical stress and deformation generated at such temperature. The weak links of cable body and cleats under thermo-mechanical force are determined. The results show that the equivalent stress of cable support and hoop bolts is easy to exceed the yield strength of the material, which should be paid attention to in design and laying. This study can provide analysis methods and data reference for the design, construction and monitoring of high voltage large section cables.
