Accuracy and Latency Tradeoffs for WiFi and BLE in an Indoor Localization System

With the continuous evolution of Internet of Things devices, the importunity of indoor localization services has become one of the main aspects nowadays. Indoor localization serves many applications, such as smart parking and health monitoring. Different indoor localization techniques can find the estimated location of the user device. These techniques can run on different wireless technologies. However, each technique can perform differently than the other regarding its metrics, for example, the total latency to find the location, the total energy consumed, and the accuracy of the estimated location. Using multiple anchors offers accurate location results with minimal localization errors. However, increasing the number of anchors means more processing time and energy consumption. Thus, this paper aims to implement a localization system to find the location of the user in an indoor environment using the most famous transmission technologies, WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy. In addition, it investigates the performance of these two transmission technologies in terms of latency and accuracy with different number of anchors using Trilateration RSSI based and Fingerprint techniques.
