Analysis of the Main Factors Behind the Origination and Propagation of Cracks in Aluminium Cylinder Heads

Addressed in the present paper are the underlying causes for the emergence and development of cracks in specific areas of diesel engine cylinder heads. Reconsidered, from the authors’ point of view, are some frequently recurring regularities of failure occurrence in a particular type of engine using fuel injection system. Examined further is the impact of the distinctive characteristic features of the design, and the thermocyclic effect on the structure of the aluminum alloy during the process of combustion.
