Comparison of different Interface Algorithms for a highly dynamic grid Emulator based on a Series Hybrid Converter

Highly dynamic Power Hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) systems are nowadays important for the development process of grid-connected converters or motor drives. The re-sults of such systems are highly influenced by the chosen In-terface Algorithm (IA). Hence, a lot of different IAs are pre-sented in literature but not all of them are usable for highly dynamic PHIL emulation. In this paper, the characteristics of the most common IAs are discussed and their typical ap-plications are outlined. Afterwards, suitable IAs for grid and machine emulation with highly dynamic PHIL systems are analyzed more closely. To validate the stability of the PHIL testbench, the transfer functions of all included parts are de-rived and the Nyquist stability criterion is proved. Addition-ally, the accuracy of the different IAs is considered. Moreo-ver, an emulator based on a new topology, the Series Hybrid Converter, is introduced and measurement results for high bandwidth grid emulation with suitable IAs are shown and evaluated.
