Graphene-Based Materials for Radiated EMI Control in Satellite Cavity

The necessity to map the internal electric field and to detect hotspots that could generate potential interference issues has become a very important topic in EMC on satellite scenario. The possibility to integrate wide-band EMI (electromagnetic interference) shields with low production cost and low mass could represent a well-performing solution.. In this work the electric field generated by satellite internal units at the frequency of 96 MHz, which is the clock frequency of the SpaceWire, has been calculated and the results have been analysed in order to identify possible issues due to electric field hotspots. Then, a graphene-coated honeycomb (RAM, Radar Absorbing Material) has been integrated on a victim unit in order to evaluate the shielding performance at 96 MHz frequency.
