A Motor-Inverter Test Bed for Investigation of Conducted Emissions Under Electric Fault Conditions

Concepts for More-Electric-Aircraft include electrical engines with inverters that use pulse-width modulation (PWM). Thus, a high potential for electromagnetic emissions is foreseeable, which is not yet considered by established qualification standards for aviation, e.g. EUROCAE ED-14G [1]. This paper shows a concept for a motor-inverter test bed to investigate the conducted emissions under electric fault conditions. The main component is a 5kW permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with a multi-level inverter. Current probes are positioned at the direct current (DC) input and the 3-phase output of the inverter. Furthermore, voltage probes are added to acquire data about the common-mode voltage.
