An Inductive Power Transfer System With LCC-DDS Topology to Achieve Magnetic Field Suppression and Receiver Lightweight

Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems with the low-voltage and high-current (LVHC) are widely used. A high receiving current causes a strong secondary magnetic field, increasing the thickness of ferrite cores and causing metal heat. This work proposes an IPT system with inductor-capacitor-capacitor-dual detuned series (LCC-DDS) topology, which can suppress the secondary magnetic field by generating two nearly reverse magnetic fluxes. Simulation results reveal that the

of the receiver core in a traditional tuned LCC-Series (LCC-S) IPT system is four times higher than that in the LCC-DDS IPT system. Therefore, a lightweight receiver can be achieved since less ferrite core is required in the LCC-DDS system than in the LCC-S system. Experiment tests are conducted on the LCC-DDS and LCC-S IPT systems at a 540 W transfer power. The core temperature of the LCC-DDS system is 36.3 °C (44.2 °C), while that of the LCC-S system is 42.3 °C (54.4 °C) after a 10-min operation without (with) the aluminum shield. It indicates that the proposed method can suppress the secondary magnetic field efficiently. Moreover, the efficiencies of the LCC-DDS and LCC-S systems are 86.51% (85.35%) and 87.27% (84.83%) without (with) the aluminum shield.
