Performance Tuning of Nano-Interconnects Using PSO Optimized Buffer Insertion Strategy

This typescript explains the repeater buffer optimisation strategy employed at different technology node for performance tuning of nano-interconnects. Experiments are done for Cu as well as CNT interconnects at distinct wire size lengths ranging from 500μm to 2000μm. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) methodology is employed for calculating optimus repeater count and size. The final results extracted are then justified by comparing it with mathematically calculated results. The analysis of result shows that delay-minimal buffer design strategy may sometimes leads to excessive insertion of buffers, henceforth causing power dissipation. Thus an optimal number is must. Besides this results shows that for carbon nanotube interconnects the count of buffers is lesser as compared to Cu interconnects. For both types of interconnects it is investigated that mere advancement in technology node results in significant increase of buffers to be inserted as repeater.
