Development of Acoustic Thermometer and Velocimeter with High Temporal Resolution and Noise Suppression Capability

The high temporal resolution of the measurement is the basis for capturing dynamic changes in the medium in real-time. In this paper, an acoustic thermometer and velocimeter were developed with the capability of high temporal resolution and noise suppression. The proposed method in the development allows the simultaneous utilization of several frequency bands of acoustic signals. The sound source utilizes a novel frequency sweep-driven mode of a quadratic-convex function, which enables the system to have a strong noise suppression capability while significantly improving the temporal resolution of the measurement. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the temporal measurement resolution is improved by 8.3% over the traditional method by applying the new technique. The relative error of both temperature and velocity measurements of the quadratic-convex frequency-driven sound source is less than 1%.
