Pulsed BPSK RF Subsystem for X-band Surveillance Radars

This paper describes the architecture of multifunctional RF subsystem designed for surveillance Radar, which is a fully coherent pulse Doppler X-Band Radar. RF subsystem which plays a critical role in the performance of the Radar, generates BPSK modulated Barker coded Radar waveforms in X-band. A Simplest architecture using analog mixer is being adapted into the design for BPSK modulation and demodulation resulting in less component count. Phase Locked Loop (PLL) based low phase noise Synthesizer is used as the local oscillator (LO) source for up converting the BPSK signal to X-band. Same LO is being used for down converting X-band signal for achieving coherency. RF Module is designed for lightweight, less complexity, minimum power consumption and low cost. The module is realized and qualified to meet the performance under all weather conditions.
