Regulatory and Normative Aspects

This chapter discusses the regulatory aspects, recommendations and norms, at the national, European and world level. The regulatory constraints governing Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the surrounding world are mainly environmental in nature. All IoT systems which include radio frequency (RF), ultimately have antennas which can emit radio frequency waves. It is necessary to take account of the health consequences stemming from the exposure of the human body to the electromagnetic fields given off by IoT Things ‐ known as human exposure. The European Commission in Brussels published its “Mandate 486” that looks in detail at the problems raised by the issues of privacy, individual liberties and societal aspects of radio‐frequenc.
