Low-cost Subscription-less Home Security System

The goal of this project is to set up a home video security system using only free software, and zero paid subscriptions. There are many paid subscriptions such as google nest which offer great value and is likely the easiest and cheapest solution for the vast majority of homes. However, building and controlling the entire system has several key advantages. First of all, the customers don’t pay for any subscriptions. Secondly, control all of the data. Thirdly, it is more robust in that it does not depend on an outside internet connection. Finally, this kind of a system uses software which has many other uses besides home security and is a good starting point for a capable smart home.
