Modeling the vulnerability of power system components to debris flows for power systems resilience analyses

Hydrogeological threats are responsible for significant damages to critical infrastructures, including power systems. In the variety of possible landslides movements, debris flows caused by intense rainfalls represent a rare though impacting threat for the power system and are responsible for significant power outages all over the world. The paper proposes an analytical physics-inspired model to quantify the vulnerability of power system components to debris flows phenomena. This model can be suitable for different resilience-oriented applications, from long-term planning to operational planning. The application case studies focus on two portions of extra-high voltage transmission grid and demonstrate the effectiveness of the model in highlighting criticalities in the grid and its applicability also to large power systems.
