Design of compact broadband and high gain folded dipole antenna with superstate(FDASS) for millimetre and 5G Applications

A broadband folded dipole Antenna (FDASS) operating at 28.5GHz is reported in present work. The antenna is found to be a favorable candidate for full duplex communications in the 5G wireless systems. This FDASS consists of two symmetric printed dipoles with a circular slot implanted on the ground. This arrangement helps eliminate the influence of the ground as a reflector and enhance the bandwidth. The selection of super state in this design above the antenna, is to enhance the gain with same broad bandwidth characteristics of the antenna without superstate. Simulated results reflect that unlike the conventional dipoles, the FDASS exhibits a broad impedance bandwidth with an enhanced gain. The simulated FDASS impedance bandwidth was 9.7GHz, from 24.2GHZ to 33.9GHz which is 34%fractional bandwidth. This band completely covers the 5G communication band and millimetre-wave communication band.
