Influence of Lateral Force on the Sliding of a Body with Elastic Supports

The problem of interaction between elastic force and forces of other nature is popular in scientific literature. The interaction of dry friction with the elastic forces is considered during the sliding of a body over a rough plane. A pulling lateral force is applied to the center of mass of the body. In the process of motion, sliding of one or two supports is possible. The corresponding dynamical system is a variable structure system. A condition is found for one of the supports to fall into the friction cone and then stop for some finite time. It is shown that the body with elastic supports performs slipping with the non-zero horizontal speed, even if the lateral force is less, the minimum required for the sliding of a solid (non-rigid) body with dry friction.
