New Circuit Structure Applying MMC and Its Control for Quick Charger System

A problem in charge time to the battery arises for the further spread of an electric vehicle (EV) from an en-vironmental issue in recent years. Thus study and development of a quick charger system (QCS) for charge time reduction are performed. The QCS for EV is becoming popular and widely investigated to improve charging time and its per-formance. In this research, a novel QCS for multiple output applying a modular multi-level converter (MMC) structure with a high frequency transformer and its control method based on mixed PWM and PAM is proposed. The proposed control consists of the active/reactive current control on the input side, MMC cell capacitor voltage control and output voltage control. By performing these three controls in coop-eration, the desired operation is achieved. The system config-uration and control method are explained and performance of the proposed system is verified by simulation.
