Estimating doses of gamma radioisotope therapy using Visual Monte Carlo Simulation

In this work, treatment doses of two radioactive medical isotopes of Gamma, Iodine 131 (I¹³¹) and Cobalt 60 (Co⁶⁰) are estimated using Visual Monte Carlo (VMC) Simulation software. This software is provided with the values of radioactivity of several pharmaceuticals used in medical treatment. Absorbed and Effective doses are key quantitative indicators of the body's exposure to Gamma rays during radio-therapy and they are calculated within VMC software. The study will estimate the absorbed and effective doses to both targeted organ as well as the adjacent organs in order to quantify the ratio of the applied dose upon them.
