Modeling of a Miniature Directional Coupler on Planar Structures

A theoretical and practical study of broadband directional couplers was carried out, which showed that the use of planar structures can be effectively used for their miniaturization. Since the area of the junction topology on the segments is 5955 mm
²
, and the area of the compact version is 1735.85 mm
²
. As a result, the compact version of the coupler occupies only 29.15% of the area of the classical circuit. With the help of photolithography, we managed to produce and then measure the layout of the proposed coupler. In addition to the dimensions, the following information can be stated – that the shoulder balance band of the layout is already almost twice, and the losses are 0.9 dB higher. The experiment allowed us to confirm the accuracy of our calculations.
