Power quality factors mitigation on NORED distribution network: A case study of JEDS Campus, Ongwediva

Powering electrical and electronic appliances like computers and television is not just about ensuring that the devices are switched on, it is important to consider and assess the power quality to ensure the sustainability of these devices. Power quality is a measure of deviations in supply systems and their components and affects all connected electrical and electronic appliances, including computers, TV monitors, and lighting. Some electronic gadgets at Jose Eduardo Dos Santos (JEDS) campus are experiencing shortened life span. It is therefore important to investigate the causes and magnitudes of power quality factors in the electricity supplied to the JEDS campus by Northern Namibia’s Regional Electricity Distributor (NORED). The impact of these factors on the electrical and electronic devices was determined. This paper presented a solution to mitigate the power quality factor by using a single tuned harmonic filter.
