Proliferative Activity of Eukaryotic Cells Affected by Extremely Low-Frequency Electromagnetic Field

This study aims to investigate the effect of grid frequency on changes in the proliferative activity of eukaryotic Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells in vitro. As the extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field affects humanity, it is essential to examine its influence on living organisms. This particular area remains unclear, especially in long-term radiation. The grid frequency and magnetic flux density of the Earth's magnetic field were applied. = 1.8. In the light of recent results, there is now some concern about the compliance of grid frequency with conditions of ion parametric resonance. Using V. V. Lednev’s formula, 50 Hz frequency is close to the cyclotron motion of Mg
²⁺
in the eucaryotic cell. Hence, the maximum stimulation effect of the field was achieved at the coil position E, with the number of cells in the exposed sample being 129 % more than in the control sample. On the other hand, the maximum inhibition was detected in the coil sample D with a yeast growth coefficient of -67 %. Presented data may have important implications for the long-term exposure of ELF-EMF which may shed some light on the issue.
