Issues of Implementation and Application of Planar Structures in Millimeter Band Antenna and Feedline Devices

The paper considers issues of sub-terahertz (millimeter) band development on the basis of wide implementation of planar structures in antenna and feedline technology. Factors of planar structures evolution (both hindering and contributing) are analyzed. Structures using TEM-, TE- and slow surface waves are considered. A review of some antenna types based on planar structures is given. Ways of solving the problem of reducing dissipative losses in feedline devices from general theoretical position are considered. It is noted that waveguide structures at waves other than TEM, in terms of energy efficiency, are the most preferable for the radiosystems using a sub-terahertz band.
