Studies on the Operation of Electromagnetic Actuators With Potential Use to Reduce the Level of Vibrations Generated in Piping Systems

The scientific and technical advances in recent years allow designers and producers the use of different methods compared to the classical ones. One of them is represented by technological utilities in the field of generation, transmission, and distribution of thermal agents. It was found that in certain situations, the placement of heat generators on elastic floors or if the equipment has some faults, the vibrations generated are transmitted through the heating agent to the heating converters, negatively influences the acoustic inner environment. The compensation method is the technology through which the effects of the vibrations generated in the pipes in which the thermal agent flows can be mitigated and/or cancelled. The aspects highlighted in the following case study are the frequency and amplitude of vibrations along with the vibration force evaluated with a single restriction. The authors have considered systems consisting in one electromagnetic actuator, driven by an adjustable frequency converter. The analyzed solutions of one-touch electromagnetic actuators, respectively double-touch actuators, consider a system having an actuating coil for one-touch electromagnetic actuators or two actuating coils for double-touch electromagnetic actuators, with transistor static contactors powering the coils, a sinusoidal signal generator and a modulator that can modify the frequency and the amplitude of the vibrations. Since the harmonic response is not an issue analyzed in detail in this paper, the conclusions section highlights the prospect of using a voltage-modulated converter.
