Abstract:

The pharmaceutical industry’s principal focus is on the move from batch to continuous manufacturing. The end-to-end continuous manufacturing process allows for ’on-demand’ tablet manufacture, with significant time, quality, and cost savings. To ensure an optimal production process and product quality, advanced solutions must be developed. However, the complexity of such production lines require a rigorous analysis and testing before deploying the control strategy to a lab-scale plant at first and then at industrial level. Thus, in this paper a novel and unique benchmark simulator for continuous manufacturing of tablets is presented. This unique en versatile simulator enable the design and evaluation of control algorithms in a systematic manner.
