Vehicle speed measurement, type, and color identification by video processing using machine learning algorithms

Every year many people lose their lives due to road accidents, mentioning that speed is the principal cause of this disaster, hence the need to control the vehicle’s speed. In this study, we intend to develop a video processing model by integrating cameras in the transportation sector to control vehicle traffic speed. This technique allows us to monitor traffic in real-time, quantify the traffic flow, and estimate the vehicle speed. Therefore, we will contribute to road safety improvement motivated by an unwavering desire to expect a reduction in road casualties. In this paper, we will implement machine learning algorithms to measure the vehicle’s velocity and identify its color and its type. Several tests were carried out to verify the model’s accuracy. According to the results obtained, the realized model operates successfully.
