Evaluation of Web-based Digital Storytelling Tools for Early Childhood Education

During the last decades, ICT tools have been incorporated in the curriculum of early childhood education. An ICT resource gaining interest involves digital storytelling. Storytelling always played an important role in early childhood and it is expected that digital storytelling will provide additional benefits. Missing aspects in related work are the use of different Web-based authoring tools for the creation of digital stories and the comparative evaluation of their features. A recent approach presented by the authors is an exception since four Web-based authoring tools and a standalone authoring tool were used. In this paper, the four corresponding Web-based authoring tools are evaluated using two evaluation models for digital storytelling tools. This evaluation will assist teachers, researchers and developers. To the best of our knowledge, the discussion presented in this paper is missing from related work.
