A Method for Studying the Influence of Different Berth Layout on Port Service Level Based on Simulation

Berth layout has a significant influence on port service level, in that navigation process in the waterway and handling operation process of ships can be greatly affected under different layout schemes. This study provides a simulation-based method to optimize berth layout, and the developed simulation model includes operation processes of the ship arriving in port, waiting at anchorage, going through the waterway, handling at berth, and leaving the port. Different berth layout schemes in port are input into the simulation models, and results can be obtained by conducting simulation models. It is indicated that the port service level and efficiency will be improved under a reasonable berth layout. This study can provide valuable methods and ideas for port planning and construction.
