Effect of various FACTS Devices and HVDC link on Multi-Area Power System Utilizing 2DOF-TIDN Controller

This paper deals with the effect of various FACTS devices and HVDC links on multi-area power systems. Area-1, 2, and 3 incorporated hydro-thermal and wind turbine systems (WTS) as generating units. A contemporary controller called 2DOF-TIDN has been adopted for three area AGC systems, and BSA is successfully utilized to get the optimum values of controller parameters. The comparison of system dynamics with 2DOF-TIDN, PID and TID, revealed that the system with 2DOF-TIDN provides better dynamics. Moreover, analysis of system dynamics with and without WTS shows that the system has better dynamics with WTS. Further, incorporating HVDC link in parallel to AC tie-line revealed system dynamics drastically improved. Furthermore, the study of various FACTS devices integration on three area AGC system showed that, when the system is provided with GCSC, the system exhibits better dynamics than TCPS and SSSC
