Compact Planar Monopole Antenna with 5.5 GHz Band Notching

This paper proposes a compact planar monopole antenna with 5.5 GHz band notching. By embedding two narrow slits with overall length of a half guide wavelength at 5.5 GHz into two sides of the patch structure, band notching characteristic can be achieved. These two narrow slits act as energy trapping resulting in electromagnetic interference elimination at WiFi/WiMAX band of 5.5 GHz. The proposed antenna provides radiation characteristic similar to bidirectional patterns at all frequencies in all planes. The designed antenna shows nearly constant transfer function and smooth of average group delay time. Therefore, the proposed antenna is appropriate to apply for various UWB applications.
