A Broadband Resonant Cavity Antenna Using Tapered Two-Identical-Layer Metamaterial

This paper presents the radiation enhancement of the broadband resonant cavity antenna (RCA) using a two-layer identical-taper-patch metamaterial superstrate based on air-filled micromachined structure. The proposed RCA platform has a benefit using the thin film and polymer-based spacer to obtain the low-loss property in a dielectric material. The physicals of the metamaterial can technically be modified to form the superstrate structure over the primary antenna source for improving the radiation bandwidth. Based on the EM simulation, the investigation shows that the performance of the antenna gain of 13.7 dB is reached and the achievement of the radiation bandwidth of ~60.0% is obtained with the flat ripple gain peak over the frequency band of 7.3-13.3 GHz.
