A Square Slotted Circular Patch MIMO Antenna with DGS for UWB Applications

Design of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) four-port ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna is presented. The antenna dimensions are 39 x39x1.6m$\text{m}^{3}$. It achieves multiband operation and wider bandwidth characteristics by embedding with four square-slotted circular patch (SCP) antennas with micro-strip fed line and rectangular slots added to each other for accomplishment of good isolation. Incorporation of Defected Ground Structure (DGS) resulted in improvement of antenna performance parameters like a number of frequency bands, bandwidth, and isolation making the antenna suitable for UWB applications. The proposed antenna is operating in two frequency bands 3.96 GHz – 6.12 GHz and 9.42 GHz – 20 GHz with 6.6 dBi peak gain. The proposed antenna achieved satisfactory MIMO characteristic parameters. The proposed antenna operates in C-band, X-band, Ku-band, and suitable for UWB applications.
