A Finite Volume Scheme for Thermal Simulation Using Locally Refined Semi-structured Grids

This paper presents a finite-volume scheme with locally refined grids for solving the heat conduction equation. Based on the semi-structured grids, multiple adjacent cells can be generated on each side of a cell, thereby permitting adaptive grids for domains of different feature sizes. This technique improves the accuracy of discretization while not increasing the number of cells apparently. Detailed integration expressions of the control volumes are provided for different types of cells. Finally, a matrix equation for node temperatures is established. Numerical examples show the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.
