Simulation of Single Phase New Multilevel Converter Topology for VSC based HVDC Grid Connected Offshore Wind Power Plant

In this paper comparison of cascaded and proposed new multilevel converter topology is presented. Conventional single phase two level inverter output is square wave and contains 48%. Two level inverter requires larger size filters to convert square wave to sine wave and better PWM technique to reduce harmonics. Proposed multilevel inverter gives output (stair case) which is nearer to sine wave which requires lesser size filter and lesser number of switches compare to cascaded multilevel inverter. Use of multilevel converter in weak AC system reduces size of filters which results in better power quality.
